“Go with compassion, go with love, go with understanding”

Terry was first introduced to Anawim House (www.anawimhouse.com) as a homeless drug addict, and today, Terry is the Executive Director of the organization. Terry thought he grew up in a stable home, and labeled unsettling behaviour as ‘normal’ to avoid conflict. This automatic response quickly spiraled his entire life into complete emptiness— until he found himself at rock bottom. When he was there, someone reached out a hand to help that saved his life. Listen to the incredible story that turned Terri from living on the streets to operating the community that saved his life.

Participant Reflections

A Place Called Home
Terry Edison-Brown

Each workshop produces a creative participant reflection – a personal take away from the story they just heard – that is voluntarily shared with the wider community.
We believe that personal narratives have the power to connect individuals across socioeconomic boundaries, and that the rich creative ability of our community is the most effective tool we can wield against the stigma that prevents necessary social change.

“A heart gives with open arms, hearts receive. A connection in conversation. Listening and learning. Laughter and love is what keeps us here, this home has many stories, one open door. Wellness is feeling welcome, home is knowing you have a friend.”

“Coming from my studies, we have this theory that if I share a story that someone else shared with me we open up a different layer of communication.”
